Wow-wow-wow..! Do you think this is the third movie of Transformer? Well you’re right in another question! This isn’t about the autobots and decepticons, but this is about a tool in our life that most of us in Indonesia call it “Trafo”. But the word “Transformer” here have a close meaning to the “Transformer” from the movie too..! A tools to change voltage of AC (Alternating Current) without losing much power. The change is the same but not the same thing, you know? Trafo divided into 3 parts. There are main magnetic iron, the primary bound, and the secondary bound.

How do transformator work? The alternating current (AC) on the primary bound will makes an alternating magnetic flux on the main magnetic iron. Then because of the alternating magnetic flux, Induction voltage will appear on the secondary bound. So, Secondary Current ( Is ) will stream in the secondary bound.

Then how to calculate the voltage in transformator? We have a function of transformator, that is:





An amazing tool, isn’t it? Huh? No? Maybe you don’t know the variety of the transformator. There are two kinds of transformator. The Step Up and the Step Down. The Step Up, like its name, its function is to ascend the alternating voltage. And the step down used to descend the alternating voltage. Imagine if there aren’t step up and step down transformer... A big factory with just 220 volt because there aren’t step up trafo, or all of our electronic wares will be automatically broken because of the thousands voltage enter our house because there aren’t step down trafo.

Now, we know the hidden hero in our life in this electrical era. They are already here... but most of us didn’t realize it... They are... Transformer...
